Philoxenia Greek Language School — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about registration, placement, participation, cancellation policies and course documents.
How do I enroll in a Greek course at Philoxenia?
Start by completing our Greek course registration form, or contact us by phone or in person.
We review the requested programme, level and group availability before confirming participation. Payment arrangements depend on the course: short-term programmes use a reservation deposit and balance deadlines, while other courses follow their applicable published enrolment and payment terms. Submitting an enquiry alone does not confirm a place.
Do you offer placement testing before I join a level?
Yes. We offer a Greek placement test for students with previous Greek study who may be ready for a level above A1.
Complete beginners do not automatically need a placement test. Knowing the alphabet or a few expressions does not by itself mean you have completed A1. Placement recommendations depend on your demonstrated skills and suitable group availability.
What is your refund and cancellation policy for standard programmes?
Our standard programmes follow the published Operational Policy, including its Refund & Cancellation section. When Philoxenia cancels a standard course, paid tuition is refunded according to that policy.
The published policy also sets different refund conditions for withdrawal before a programme begins. Please check the applicable terms before payment; the separate booking policy for Seasonal, Summer and Study Holidays programmes is not the same as the standard-course policy.
Do special programmes have different refund terms?
Yes. Our four-week Seasonal and Summer Greek courses and seven-day Study Holidays follow a separate short-term booking and cancellation policy.
For these programmes, a 25% reservation deposit is due no later than 15 days before the start, and the remaining 75% no later than 10 days before the start. The school confirms whether the programme will run no later than 10 days beforehand. Cancellations by the participant or Philoxenia at least 10 days before the start receive a full refund; later cancellations may not be eligible. Other individually arranged programmes may have their own published terms.
How do online and hybrid classes work?
Our online Greek group lessons are taught live with a teacher; hybrid attendance combines classroom participation with live remote access where the relevant group supports it.
Online and hybrid options depend on the programme and confirmed group arrangements. Students need an appropriate device, microphone and stable internet connection, and must follow the Hybrid & Online Class Etiquette Policy.
Can I record lessons or share class materials?
No. Recording lessons, taking or distributing screenshots, and sharing class materials are not permitted without the required prior written consent.
Our Operational Policy describes the permissions and privacy requirements that apply to educational content, instructors and participating students.
When do you issue a Certificate of Attendance?
We may issue a Certificate of Attendance to eligible students who are actively attending lessons during an ongoing course cycle.
A Certificate of Course Completion is a different document, issued after successful completion of the full course cycle. Our published Operational Policy also states attendance and financial conditions for certificates, including a 90% attendance requirement, while the current certification guidance does not specify that percentage. Please contact us to confirm the conditions applicable to your document request.
What happens if Philoxenia cancels or reschedules my course?
If Philoxenia cancels a standard course, paid tuition is refunded under the published Operational Policy. If a standard-course timetable is changed and you cannot attend the new dates, that policy also provides refund or transfer options.
Short-term Seasonal, Summer and Study Holidays bookings follow their separate cancellation and confirmation deadlines. We notify affected participants when a programme changes or will not operate.
What is the difference between a Certificate of Attendance and a Certificate of Course Completion?
A Certificate of Attendance relates to participation in an ongoing course. A Certificate of Course Completion confirms successful completion of the full course cycle.
Neither document is the official Certificate of Attainment in Greek (Ellinomatheia). That qualification is obtained through the authorised external examination process, not issued by Philoxenia.
